Description

Gammelstilla-Bredmossens nature reserve is a 167-hectare, virtually unaffected wetland. Bird life is rich and varied. Bredmossen has been classified as one of the county's foremost bird marshes. In the area you can watch birds or walk along the path. The wetland area consists of a dome-shaped bog with a clear central high point in the south. Flat marshes in the north and shore areas at the Upper Pond lake. The bog in the south is dominated by rice vegetation. While the marsh vegetation can be described by wire sedge, sedge and sedge. Here and there, forest islets stand out in the wetlands.

Camping is permitted in the area along the hiking trail. Fires are only allowed in the prepared fire pit, see map below.

Birds in Gammelstilla-Bredmossen

This is one of the county's most valuable mire areas for birds. The landscape is vast and divided into several different habitats - each with its own special species.

Birds that need forests are also found in this wetland kingdom. The woodcock nests in old nests in the trees and is therefore found in the forest edge. The skylark also nests in trees and often flies over the treeless marshes in search of dragonflies.

Grebes and swans

Many ducks, grebes and swans gather in the open water at Övre Dammen. On sunny spring days, you can witness the remarkable dance of the grebes. The gray-crowned grebe has a different appearance. It stays hidden, but reveals itself with its long and distinctive calls.

In the far south is Bredmossen, which is a gently curving bog. During the spring, all the territories on the bog are dense. Cranes, yellow wagtails, curlews, snipe and greenfinches nest here.
