Description

Near the Realsbo Nature Reserve lies an old pasture that has transformed into a large deciduous grove since grazing ceased. Ash trees dominate the area, though there are also some hazel and other deciduous trees. Visit in May or June when the birdsong is at its most intense and the tree canopies are bright green.
The contiguous ash forest provides a habitat for both a unique lichen flora and special ground vegetation, as the sparse foliage allows plenty of light to filter through. Near the entrance, the Realsbobäcken stream has carved out small ravines. The slopes also feature a diverse flora.

Birdlife is abundant, with species such as the blackcap, wren, and goldcrest. Several species of woodpeckers have been spotted, including the lesser spotted woodpecker.

The entire reserve is framed by spruce forest. Spruce saplings are removed at regular intervals. Otherwise, the area would eventually turn into a coniferous forest.

From Realsbo Hage, a hiking trail leads to the Hässlen Nature Reserve, located a couple of kilometers to the north. If you follow the trail south, you’ll reach the Blåberget Nature Reserve. Click the link on the right to learn more.
