Knytbergets naturreservat

You can easily reach the area via Siljansleden from Söder Lindberg. Where the fields end and it begins to slope open, the reserve begins. Here you walk into a mixed coniferous forest and the striking impression is large, rough aspens. This is land that was previously open for grazing and haymaking. Now it has grown back, mainly with deciduous trees. But the spruce trees are also thriving, so to ensure that it remains a deciduous forest in the future, large parts of the area should be kept clear of the spruce that is creeping in everywhere.

In spring you may hear the call of the grey woodpecker or, with a bit of luck, see it looking for insects in rotten wood. A little further on, there is plenty of mountain lichen - if you can get there before the moose, who think this plant is yummy! Continue along the Siljan Trail up to the top of Knytberget, 460.5 meters above sea level - there are views in several directions between the trunks.
