Rånö

Rånö is another of Haninge's nature reserves managed by the Archipelago Foundation. The nature consists of barren rocky areas with gnarled pine trees, lush spruce forests, lovely sandy beaches and softly sanded bathing rocks. On the northern part of the island around Rånö farm you will find pastures and deciduous meadows that are still kept open by grazing. A large number of paths and well-signposted small roads make Rånö perfect for walking. However, the woodland is heavily influenced by forestry and large areas are occupied by young forest and clearings. At Kapelludden on the southern part of the island is an old island cemetery and along the western side of the island there are a large number of so-called Russian ovens. It is believed that the Russians baked bread in these ovens when they ravaged the Stockholm archipelago in 1719.
