Description
Limestone has been quarried in Borghamn since the Middle Ages. Several historic buildings in the area, such as Alvastra Abbey, Vadstena Abbey and Vadstena Castle, were built with stone from Borghamn. Later, Borghamn limestone was used in the construction of the Göta Canal, Karlsborg Fortress and the National Museum in Stockholm.
The harbor and the entire area between the northern foot of Omberg and the harbor entrance has been declared a listed building since 1993.
