Åbysäcken

Åbysäcken is the largest forest area around Hackefors. The area is quite hilly and an exciting and varied forest environment. Pine-dominated coniferous forest is most common, but here and there are parts with larger elements of deciduous trees. In the western parts of the area there are some valuable oak and scrub environments in sunlit locations that offer fine views towards Stångån.

The forest is frequently used for walks, excursions, exercise and training activities. In the north-eastern part there is an exercise facility run by Linköping Ski Club. Several exercise trails start from here. In winter, Åbysäcken is a popular area for skiing, not least because it is the only area in the urban area of Linköping that offers artificial snow.

Within the area there are two picnic areas with fireplaces where you can make a fire and grill food. There is another rest area with a fireplace down by Stångån south of Åbysäcken.
