Description
Säveån could be called the beaver's kingdom. Trees along the river are full of gnaw marks and the beavers eagerly fell them over the paths. The river winds through the lush valley that has a rich bird life.
A walk here means following the water's tempo changes. It often flows and rapids with great force, but in some places it flows calmly in large turns. Here and there are nice benches for a break.
Hedefors power station is an obstacle for eels, as well as the unique strains of trout and salmon found in the river. Therefore, a 400 meter long fishway, a so-called bypass, has been built so that the fish can migrate past the power station. Now you can once again see salmon making their way up the river; a truly impressive sight. Fishing is allowed but requires a fishing license.
It is easy to get to the Säveån valleys reserve by public transport. From Garveriet to Kusebacka bridge, it is both graveled and accessible with a stroller. In Säveån-Hedefors there is an accessible rest area. The Gotaleden trail runs through both reserves.
