Description
Nämforsen in the Ångerman River is one of Northern Europe's largest and most distinctive rock carving sites, with around 2,600 rock images carved in the stone right next to the released rapids.
The oldest were made over 6000 years ago. Here you can see the symbols of northern hunters - mostly moose - through hundreds of generations, but also signs suggesting southern contacts. The large collection of rock carvings, the distinctive natural environment of the nip landscape and the released rapids in summer make Nämforsen a world-class cultural heritage. Nämforsen Rock Carving Museum with cafeteria, information, souvenir sales, guided tours.
In summer, the power plant releases water in the rapids between June 15 - August 15 between 08 - 22. Midsummer weekend, the water is released around the clock.
