STF Munkviken

Munkviken has been a place for gatherings and recreation since 1941, when the camp facility was inaugurated. Behind the initiative were two brothers – a fisherman and a priest – who wanted to create a place where young people could meet and where people could find rest and recovery close to nature.

The old vicarage in Lövånger was purchased, dismantled and transported across the ice of Avafjärden during winter by horse and sled in as many as 53 loads before being rebuilt on the scenic peninsula where Munkviken stands today.

Over time, the business expanded with a restaurant, additional buildings and a chapel inaugurated in 1963 inside the old vicarage barn. Today, the site is still operated by a non-profit foundation with the same vision at its heart – to create a place where people can meet, rest, learn and experience nature together.

Around Munkviken, a vibrant coastal landscape awaits, with forests, trails and hills offering sweeping sea views. During late summer and autumn, the forests invite visitors to pick berries and mushrooms and experience nature up close. When winter arrives, the area is covered in snow and silence. After a day of skiing along the sea, you can warm up in the sauna or hot tub and, if you are lucky, watch the northern lights dance across the sky.

Activities take place at Munkviken all year round, with camps, conferences and gatherings for all ages. There is room here for community, relaxation and outdoor experiences – a warm welcome to STF Munkviken.
