Description
Avanäset is an undisturbed and scenic coastal and archipelago area with beautiful rocky outcrops, sandy beaches and natural forest.
The area on Avanäsberget and around Oxberget is pleasant to walk around in, and from the heights you can see far out to sea. There are also several ancient monuments here. Gammelhamnen is a beautiful natural harbor and Vitsanden is an elongated sandy beach in the northern part of the reserve. There is a smaller sandy beach at Tackelkammarviken inside Höghällan.
3,000 years ago, Avanäset and Oxberget were islands barely sticking out of the sea. The waves washed over and washed away almost all the soil. Despite this, a few pine trees have managed to take root. They live a hard life and over time become gnarled, twisted and very beautiful. Many of the pines are more than 200 years old.
