Description
The Åströmsforsen nature reserve is beautifully situated along the Rickleån river. The stretch between Robertsfors and the sea has not been dredged, which is unique for a Norrland watercourse of this size. The river has a winding course with alternating rapids and calm flowing stretches.
The reserve consists mainly of woodland. There is cultivated land in the upper and lower parts, but active farming now occurs mainly in the lower parts of the reserve.
One of the islets in the rapids is home to yellow sword lily, a species that has few natural habitats in upper Norrland. It is best seen from the south side of the river.
