Actions

Description

With a sparse and lean coniferous forest, richly draped in hanging lichens, Averåknarten rises above the marshland in the northeast. The view from the knot is magnificent.

Lean coniferous forest and mire dominate and give a distinctive wilderness character. Several fire-affected trees with fire sounds testify to earlier forest fires.

The reserve was established to preserve the structures and biodiversity of the wetlands and natural forests. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.

Animal and plant life

The bird fauna has elements of northern species such as the tawny owl, the red grouse, the black-tailed godwit and the lichen jay. In several places there are large anthills that have been used as winter dens by bears. However, the chances of encountering a bear are small. However, droppings or tracks may be reward enough for the visitor.

Along Långmyren there is a species-rich marsh in the south, where, for example, marsh helleborine and sedge grow. In the northern part, you can find probably the county's largest occurrence of the poisonous yellow wolf lichen.
