Ängemyrarna, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Värmlands län
Actions
Description
Ängemyrarna is one of southern Värmland's largest contiguous areas of old pine forest.
Several of the pines are over 250 years old and have traces of several forest fires, a phenomenon that has been important for the character of the area. The origin of the name Ängemyrarna is unclear. Perhaps it can be explained by the fact that bog hunting may have been carried out on the wetlands in the central part of the area. The mosaic of sparse, coarse-stemmed pine forest and wet moorland gives the visitor an impression of wilderness.
The reserve was established to preserve a natural pine forest that has been affected by forest fires. Together with the surrounding forest, the area is intended to preserve natural plant and animal communities in the long term. The purpose of the nature reserve is also to promote outdoor recreation and nature experience, but without adversely affecting the species worthy of protection.
Animals and plants
Several rare and endangered species are found in the area. The rag beetle and the relict beetle are two examples of rare and therefore red-listed beetles that have been found at Ängemyrarna. There are also several unusual mosses, lichens and fungi. The chances of encountering a capercaillie or hearing a wolverine are good.
