Facts

Among the birds nesting in Äspet are avocets, little terns and grebes. In some years, brown harriers also breed. The reef area at Äspet is one of southern Sweden's foremost resting places for waders and during late summer and early fall it is possible to see up to 20 different wader species in one day. At this time, skuas and plenty of terns are regularly seen. Äspet is also an interesting bird site in winter. In the harbor basin and in the lagoon, there are often large flocks of wigeons with a few brown and rock ducks, and along the shore you can see sea eagles, long-tailed ducks and jays. Winter waders, snow buntings and water pipits are annual visitors, and mountain larks are also seen. There are two birdwatching towers in the reserve next to the lagoon area. The harbour pier at the northern edge of the area is also a good vantage point.
