Description
The Erikaberget nature reserve has been a well-known destination for many years. From the top of Erikaberget, 210 meters above sea level, visitors are offered a beautiful view of Rastälvsdalen, one of Bergslagen's valleys that runs north-south. In the past, guests at the old spa resort in Nyhyttan made pilgrimages to the top to enjoy the fresh air and the sunset.
Here you can meet the lynx
Erikaberget is the middle of the reserve's three peaks. The other two are called Uvberget and Ställberget. The hike up goes through a large boulder steep, where the forest due to the rugged terrain has been left alone for the forest machines. Rock slime with its small white flowers grows on the slope, while the limestone-affected parts are home to wood anemone, witch hazel and violet. Lynx also thrive on the slopes, where they can easily hide and seek shelter. Perhaps the big cat is watching you as you walk along?
Bird-rich environments
Up on the mountain, the ground is dry and covered with pine trees. Reindeer lichen and several types of beaver lichen spread out over the rocks. To the east there is a small depression with an open bog and Kviddtjärnen. Grey woodpecker, three-toed woodpecker, raven, curlew, capercaillie, black grouse and wolverine are among the reserve's more or less regular visitors. In spring, the black grouse play on the ice of Kviddtjärn. The wolverine's whistle can be heard and you can sometimes see it fly up.
Accessibility
In the Erikaberget nature reserve you can hike about 3 kilometers on a marked trail. For those who like hardships, an unmarked trip up to Uvberget is recommended. The ascent is partly in steep terrain, but once up there you have a clear view all the way to Lake Nora. On Erikaberget there is a fireplace. Firewood is available on site. Remember to burn in moderation, so that the wood is enough for future guests. The firewood is replenished regularly, but we cannot guarantee availability at all times. If you want to be sure to be able to make a fire - bring your own firewood (it is not allowed to burn sticks and branches from the forest in the reserve).
