Korsdalen, Naturreservat

The forest is an old coniferous forest and it has been protected for its high nature values, which are linked to old and dead trees.

At Korsdalen, there is a deciduous natural forest with old coniferous forest in places. One pine has been determined to be just over 400 years old. Old aspens and birches are found here and there.

Animals and plants

Several unusual animals and plants are found in the area. The proximity to the forest lake and the surrounding closed old-growth forest contribute to high humidity in the local climate, which favors most demanding mosses and lichens. Here and there, the spruce forest is dense and in such areas, self thinning through competition, combined with insect and fungal attacks, has created a lot of dry trees and flames in patches. Dead wood provides food for insects, which in turn provide food for birds. Fresh species-typical hack marks of the endangered three-toed woodpecker are scattered throughout the old-growth forest.
