Description
Vädersjön is a small nutrient-rich lake, where the resident birds include the whooper swan, crane and lark falcon. It is bordered by reed beds that are popular haunts for ducks and grebes, and the brown marsh harrier also nests in the reeds. From the marshland at the southern end of the lake, in spring you can hear the peculiar, gnawing call of the snipe. It is mixed with the chorus of frogs playing. In early summer evenings, the powerful song of the nightingale can be heard from the lake's reed beds, and in the surrounding area, barn owls and lesser spotted woodpeckers nest. You can get a good view of the lake from the breathtakingly steep Vädersjöberget mountain, which plunges almost vertically into the water on the eastern side of the lake. On a rocky knoll at the northern end of the lake there is a slightly safer, but also good viewpoint.

Directions
Norra Vädersjön: Bus 848 from Västerhaninge station, get off at Sofielund at the northern end of the lake. From the highway, the Sörmland trail stage 5:3 leads into the forest to the south. Follow the trail for about 50 m and then take a small path to the left up the mountain. Unfortunately there is no parking lot nearby. Södra Vädersjön is best reached by car via Vädersjö farm, but even here it can be a little difficult to find parking. From the farm, you pass to the right of a red barn onto a path lined with hazel bushes. To reach the impressive Vädersjöberget mountain, you continue up the rocky slopes through a wild and violently hilly terrain. Parts of the road are unpaved.
