Description

Calling Klamberget a “mountain” might be a bit of a stretch, since it rises only 50 meters above the surrounding marsh and forest landscape. In any case, there is a valuable natural forest here and a great deal of marshland with many different animals and plants.

Traces of numerous fires can be seen in the area

Two habitat types dominate this area—forests consisting mainly of pine, and a mosaic of marshes and forests. The area’s marshes are completely unaffected by drainage ditches. The forests show strong evidence of fire, as evidenced by stumps bearing traces of up to six fires in the central parts of the area. Here and there, there are also quite a few deciduous trees, mostly birch but also willow and rowan. Spruce forests are also found on slopes and in wetter areas.

Rich birdlife and many mosses and lichens

No formal ornithological survey has been conducted, but cranes, common sandpipers, green sandpipers, and wood sandpipers have been observed near the marshes. In addition to these marsh birds, the area supports a bird population typical of a natural forest. The three-toed woodpecker and the capercaillie are characteristic species. Many interesting species of lichens, mosses, and fungi have also been found.

Hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities

Outdoor recreation consists mainly of hunting, as well as berry and mushroom picking. Given its proximity to the town of Malung, interest in visiting the area is expected to increase in the future. An old road called Brovägen winds through the area. It begins in Jägra, and the trail—which is about 20 km long—runs all the way to Lake Åskaken on the border with Värmland. However, you can continue for another 15 km or so and reach the Klarälven Valley in Värmland.
