Description
Hembygdsgården Kullerbacken is located just behind Dorotea church. Here you can walk around and look at the old buildings, the oldest from the latter part of the 18th century. The area includes a hexagonal lodge, a Sami hut and a njalla. A njalla is a Sami storage shed that stands on a high pole to prevent animals from entering.
The buildings on Kullerbacken have been moved here from the surrounding villages and now create a beautiful and pleasant environment with a lot of history. Several of the houses house interesting exhibitions with clothes, tools and objects from different professions and social classes. Pål-Ander's cottage, the only building in the area that is blue, is probably the oldest building from the parish.
In the middle of the area is the baker's cottage which is frequently used. If you pass by here in the summer, especially in July, you can often smell freshly baked flatbread. If you want to try baking flatbread yourself, you can rent the bakery. There are also a few other buildings that can be rented for various events.
During July, freshly baked waffles with cloudberry jam are often on sale, and on Midsummer's Eve, the Kullerbacken community center is the place where locals traditionally gather to celebrate together.
