Velamshyttan

A kilometer south of Hjulhusdammen, the trail again crosses the stream from Lilla Sirsjön and then at the place where Velamshyttan's cabin was located. It was operated during the 16th century until the 1620s, when the business was moved further down the stream to Gammelhyttan. A tall stone building can be seen above the cabin site.

It is part of a rafting channel past the drop at Velamshyttan. Below the stone-built channel, there used to be a wooden channel down to the point where the trail crosses the stream. The channel has now been demolished. When you see the major work that has been carried out for logging purposes in this small stream, you can get an idea of the transportation problems that existed in forestry before the time of roads and forestry machines.
