Description

Vännet is a nature reserve with very old, untouched forest. The area stretches over five different heights with a maximum height difference of just under 30 meters. The reserve is valuable for many mosses, among other things.

The forest here in Vännet has been allowed to grow freely for a long time, without any major human impact. The reserve consists mainly of beech forest, but there is also some mixed coniferous forest.

Halland's landscape moss has been found here

In one of the deepest hollows runs a stream, which later connects to Brostorpaån. At the stream, in 2006, the Halland landscape moss was found. So far, the bog moss has only been found in about 20 places in the county. Alsatian moss, shadow moss and downy moss were also found in the hollow, which makes the hollow a top location for mosses.

Forest history of the area

According to maps from the 17th century, Vännet was in the middle of a large deciduous forest area. In the 18th century, the forest in Halland had shrunk considerably and been replaced by pasture and farmland, but it seems that the area at Vännet survived felling. In the 19th century, even more forest disappeared in Halland and Vännet was now only wooded in its westernmost part. In the 1920s, Vännet was forested again. The deciduous forest dominated, but some pine had established itself in the far west. Today, just under half of Vännet is covered with beech, but birch and pine are also common tree species.

About 500 meters southwest of Vännet is the Göstorp forest reserve. In Göstorp forest, deciduous natural forests coexist with marshland, swamps and lakes.

It is permitted to camp for a night in accordance with the right of public access.
