Description
Vällingudden's primeval pine forest stretches out on a narrow peninsula in Lake Vällingen. Here the pines have grown mighty and many trees are filled with holes where birds nest. In Vällinguddens nature reserve you have the chance to experience a real old-growth forest with rough old giant pines directly adjacent to the beautiful and desolate lake. Walk the 2.5-kilometer trail to the reserve and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere by the water, it takes about 45-60 minutes to arrive. A tip is to stop at the biotope protection and have a coffee halfway to Vällingudden, and then continue the last bit. At high tide, however, the path can be difficult to negotiate, so it's a good idea to bring boots.
Old pines and birds
Many pine trees in the area are 200-300 years old and are home to a rich diversity of species. Woodpeckers have pecked holes in many of the trees, and small birds such as nuthatches and great tits now nest there. Our largest woodpecker, the woodpecker crow, needs large trees to nest and pine is one of its favorite trees. Other species such as the pearl owl and wood pigeon often nest in the robin's hole.
