In this nature reserve, you can walk across beautiful rocky areas with old pine trees and lichens in different shades of gray. You can also see many traces of both older and younger forest fires. On Svarttjärnsberget there is sparse pine forest and in the hollows there is mixed coniferous forest with hanging lichens on the branches of the old trees. There are also large birches and aspens in the area. There are plenty of lying and standing dead trees in various stages of decay. The dead wood is important for many insects, birds, lichens and mosses.
Slopes with mosses and lichens
The ground is largely made up of rocks and boulders covered in mosses and lichens. Here you can find lingonberries, bilberries, heather and the small delicate flower forest star. The wool tick has also been found in the reserve. It is a signal species for spruce forest environments worthy of protection.
Burn marks on stumps and trees
There are clear traces of forest fires throughout the area. The most recent fire took place as recently as 2009 in connection with a thunderstorm. The fire left a seven-hectare firebreak in the eastern part of the reserve.
The longhorn beetle (tragosoma depsarium) is the largest longhorn beetle in the coniferous forest, with a body that can grow up to 32 millimeters long. It needs old, rough, sunlit pine wood. The forest fires here in Svarttjärnsberget have favored the longhorn beetle, as the amount of dead pines increases after a fire.
The animals grazed in the forest
There are several old sheepfolds in the area. In the past, the herdsmen's animals probably grazed in the fertile mixed coniferous forests of Svarttjärnsberget.

Föreskrift 1 ovan utgör inte hinder för körning med snöskoter vintertid på fruset
och väl snötäckt underlag.
Föreskrift 5 ovan utgör inte hinder för plockning för eget behov av sådana bär,
matsvampar och växter som inte är rödlistade.
Föreskrifterna 1, 6 och 7 ovan utgör inte hinder för innehavare av särskild rätt i
samband med den jakt som är tillåten i naturreservatet.
Föreskrift 7 utgör inte hinder för tillfällig skyltning i samband med
tillståndsgivna organiserade tävlingar enligt föreskrift 9.
