Trolldalen, Naturreservat

In Trolldalen, nature, history and the world of fairy tales come close. There are ravines, cliffs and an enchanted forest. The area was formed during the Ice Age 9,500 years ago. Then the huge ice lake in Västerdalarna melted away and cut a 200 meter long opening through the landscape. The ravines create a good climate for various plants. The unusual flowers musk mallow and under-violet thrive here.

The slopes have steps and there are barbecue areas and shelters along the trail.

There are old meadow barns along the trail. There is also good documentation along the trail that teaches you more about the vegetation in the reserve and the exciting legends that nature has inspired.

A hiking trail in the reserve passes Trollbäcken and in the eastern mountainside there is a stone vault called Trollkyrkan and a little higher up is "Ättestupan".

There are several trails to choose from in the reserve. Some of them are very hilly, but then you often have the help of stairs.

There are two rest cabins and several shelters, where it is nice to stop and have a coffee. One rest area is right next to the babbling Trollbäcken. On the reserve sign, which can be found under "More information", you can see roughly how long the trails are. There is a scale at the bottom of the map. But keep in mind that many of them go up and down the slopes, so it may not be the length that affects your stamina!
