Facts
Large aspens grown up after a fire The forest is very diverse, with many tree species of many ages. Particularly impressive are the large aspens that have probably grown up after the last fire. There are also plenty of dead trees that support a variety of lichens and insects.
The abundance of insects means that woodpeckers also thrive in this forest. The three-toed woodpecker's characteristic ring-shaped peck marks around the trunks of spruce trees are found in many places. Several rare plants are found in the area. Among other things, the musk madder has one of its few habitats here in Dalarna.
Old church paths There is a 2.6 kilometer long marked path through the area. It starts from the parking lot and runs in parts in relatively rocky and steep terrain. The path passes, among other things, the remains of a coal mine, an old forestry workers' camp and a small pond. A marked church path runs through the northwestern part of the reserve and leads to Nås. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the church paths in the area were the only connection between Nås and the surrounding Finn villages.
