Description

When the mill on Utö was to be built, all the forest on the island had been felled. The mill had to be built from timber from Dalarna, which was exchanged for ore from the mines. The mill was mostly used by residents of nearby islands to grind their flour and crushed stone. Over time, the mill was abandoned and fell into disrepair. When the Archipelago Foundation bought the area, the mill was restored to the beautiful destination it is today.

The reserve is managed by the Archipelago Foundation. [More information can be found on their website (https://skargardsstiftelsen.se/omrade/uto/).
