Rörviksskogen
- Nature reserve
- County: Stockholms län
Actions
Description
Step into Rörviksskogen nature reserve and experience a forest that has been allowed to develop naturally for many years. Here, oldspruce trees stand in calcareous soil, while fallen and dead wood provides arich habitat for wildlife. These conditions create an ideal home for a variety of fungi and plants — and insects and birds thrive here too.
Look up into the treetops! The distinctive, spreading branches of the old spruce trees reveal that the forest was once more open and filled with light. Can you spot the vague pattern of dense woodland and small clearings? The area was probably once used for grazing livestock.
The reserve also includes wet woodland and several small marshes. This rich variety of habitats makes Rörviksskogen a haven for many different species.
Here, fallen trees are left where they lie, providing food and shelter for countless organisms and helping biodiversity flourish. As a result, some parts of the reserve can be challenging to walk through.
