Description

The surroundings around Bro medieval church, with its fascinating archaeological environment and beautiful nature, are well worth a visit. Here you can walk around and explore the now-abandoned village of Husby, with remnants of foundations, and a beautiful burial field featuring so-called large mounds, including the so-called Assur's mound. The very Assur is mentioned on runestone U617, which now stands just north of the church along Assur's Road. Between Ginnlögs and Assur's Road, there is also a very old route.

Bro parish church, with its oldest parts dating back to the 12th century, is today a popular destination, featuring a medieval altarpiece from 1520, a pulpit from 1650, and a baptismal font from the 12th century.

The area represents a former central settlement that, through a complex archaeological record, a medieval church, and its place name, indicates that it was likely an important site during the Late Iron Age and early medieval period.

The burial mounds were previously grazed by sheep. The ambition is to restore grazing in the area in the future.
