Description

The island
of Huvudholmen, just northeast of Ornö, features nature typical of the central
archipelago. It is mostly covered by forest dominated by pine on rocky
outcrops.

The
island’s western coast is renowned for its striking, polished and banded rock
formations. Alternating light and dark bands— the dark ones remnants of ancient
volcanic lava—create a dramatic geological display. These remarkable formations
are thought to be around 1.5 billion years old.

Huvudholmen
also offers attractive beaches for outdoor recreation and is popular with
boaters.
