Description

Come and explore an old and untouched forest. The contrast between this forest and the bordering production forest is remarkable. Many of these trees are old, and standing dead trees and downed logs are plentiful here. This variation creates ideal habitats for a variety of forest birds, lichens and fungi.

The name of the reserve, which translates to "The Countess' Cairn", originates from an old stone which marks the place where four villages once met. This stone is named after the countess of Penningby Manor, whose lands once extended to this place.

When hiking section 6 of the Roslagsleden trail, you will see this stone just past the reserve boundary to the west. Nearby is a hut and grill, maintained by the Länna Outdoor Association. The hut is always open and has a table, benches and a fireplace. Bring your own firewood. When making a fire indoors, the association requests that only hardwoods are used, due to the risk of uncontrolled fire.
