Description
Here is a large burial ground that today is called Enekullarna. It consists of more than 100 graves from the Late Iron Age (500 - 1100 AD).
The graves consist mostly of round mounds, built up of stone and earth. The size of the graves was meant to be impressive and show the status of the person in life. Some graves have a pit in the middle. Here, a grave robber might have been looking for treasure long ago. However, as the usual form of burial in those days was to burn the deceased on a large pyre, most of it has been destroyed by the flames of the fire.
Today, the Oak Hills are grazed by cows during the summer months to prevent overgrowth. There are fence crossings in several places, including a self-closing gate at the end of Floravägen.
You can read more about all the ancient remains in the nature reserve on a detailed information sign near Eneskolan.
