Description
The nature reserve consists of the three small islands Gåsholmen, Gåsholmsskäret and Gåsholmshatten in Södra Björkfjärden in Lake Mälaren, 1.5 kilometers south of Adelsö.
The vegetation consists of broadleaf trees with a large element of lime. Elm, ash, beech and hawthorn also occur. The field layer includes an abundance of lily of the valley. The islands have a rich bird life with gull, tern and heron colonies.
The bedrock of the islands consists of sandstone from the Jotnian period and therefore has high geological values.
The reserve is managed by the County Administrative Board and owned by the State.
