Description
After passing Skeppsholm Bridge, the full rigger af Chapman meets us on the right. The ship was built in England in 1888 and was named Dunboyne. In 1915, the ship was given the Swedish flag and served as a training ship for Rederi AB Transatlantic under the name G. D. Kennedy. In 1923 she was sold to the Swedish Navy and became a training ship under the name af Chapman after the ship designer Frederic Henric af Chapman. The ship was bought by the City of Stockholm in 1947 and has been run as a hostel by the Swedish Tourist Association since 1949.
The ship, which measures 85.4 meters including the bowsprit, is one of the few preserved full riggers in the Nordic region. A full rigger is a sailing ship with at least three masts that carry mainly square sails on all of them.
