Description

The church was built in the 1110s, probably by the people living in Husby as a village/farm church. Christianization took place "from above", i.e. the ruler considered himself a Christian and more or less baptized his subordinates. Building a church was very expensive, and in this way it was also possible to demonstrate one's power and wealth. Owning a church also meant that you received taxes and gifts, which made your wallet even bigger.

The church that was originally built was 8x9 meters, a third of the size of the current building. After completion, it was extended to the east (13th century) and later to the west (later part of the 15th century) so that the entrance was to the west. In older times, the church had a pointed roof. The current broken roof was built in 1774-76.

There are several objects in the church that are very worth seeing. Among other things, a baptismal font from the 12th century richly decorated with animal images of very high quality, as well as the altar cabinet carved by the Flemish woodcarver Jan Borman's studio in Brussels. How it ended up in Bro Church is a mystery. The belfry was built in 1731 at the expense of Baron Funck of Brogård. It replaced an older one built in 1673 that was considered poorly built. In the cemetery we see the Sparreska burial choir, which was built in connection with Bro Gård's renovation and the rectory's reconstruction after the fire in 1885.
