The reserve includes part of the island of Äpplarö along with around 20 surrounding islands, islets, and skerries in the bays Äpplaröfjärden and Gälnan.
The area features typical mid-archipelago nature, with plenty of beautiful swimming coves and rocky shores for bathing. Enjoy a timeless, grazed archipelago landscape with pollarded trees.

Äpplarö is located north of Ingemarsö. Take a Waxholmsbolaget ferry from Stockholm or Vaxholm to Äpplarö.

Regulations
To help protect Äpplarö Nature Reserve, there are rules you must follow.
In the reserve, it is prohibited to:
- damage or remove natural features
- damage ground vegetation
- have dogs off leash
- deliberately disturb wildlife
- camp for more than two nights
- light fires
- use musical instruments, sound systems, or similar in a disturbing way
