Prayer

Often we want more and more, rarely are we satisfied. But on our hike we don't need a lot of packing. On the contrary, it is easier to walk with as little that weighs us down as possible. We can't carry everything we own. A simple tent can be our home.

God, who like the tent surrounds me on every side, teach me to live so simply and humbly that others may live. Gather not treasures here on earth, where moth and worm destroy and thieves break in and steal. Gather treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor worm destroys and no thief breaks in and steals. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

Spiritual reflection In the old stories it is said that God himself lives in a tent. God is not glitz and glamor, showiness and grandeur. God is simplicity. God is intimacy. Behind every outward desire for more, there is a deeper longing. A longing for love and solidarity, joy and closeness, meaning and value. A longing for God. Mahatma Gandhi said: Live simply so that others may simply live! Perhaps the only constant is the love we receive and give.
