Actions
Description
Väsby strandmark is a coastal heathland area just south of Lerberget. The area is a remnant of the large grazed commons that once covered large parts of the Kulla Peninsula.
Shore heath with bog myrtle
Väsby beach land stretches along the coast in the area that was previously part of Kulla fälad. Along the shoreline there is a sandy beach and a bit inland, heathy vegetation with elements of heather takes over. In the summer, there is a good scent of wood anemone, while heath flowers and wood anemone brighten up the heath with their yellow and purple flowers. The beach in the reserve is home to the marsh marigold, a rare and endangered plant species that grows mainly on sandy beaches. The species is protected.
Sea air and swimming
In the southern part of the reserve there are good bathing opportunities. Kullaleden, part of Skåneleden, offers invigorating walks through the reserve.
Outdoor life
Väsby strandmark is a coastal reserve in the southern part of the Kulla peninsula. The Skåneleden trail (SL5 Öresund, stage 5) runs through the small reserve and continues along the coast of the entire Kulla peninsula. There is a nice, bathing-friendly sandy beach in the southern parts of the area. Parking is available next to Höganäsvägen. There is a rest area adjacent to the parking lot. Remember to take your rubbish home. The nearest bus stop is Lerberget, which is about 1 km north.
In English
Welcome to Väsby strandmark Nature Reserve
A tiny little part of the Kullabygden coastal heath lies between some buildings and a golf course. The heath extends up towards the road from the shallow shore. In the old days, the heath used to extend out along the entire coast, a habitat type that was home to grazing animals.
Breckland thyme, dwarf everlast and pulsatilla bloom on the coastal heath in summer. A mosaic of bare sand and blossoming heathland is the perfect environment for many insects, including wild bees. The butterflies flutter from flower to flower.
Sea holly, a protected species, grows down along the shoreline. Its hard, prickly leaves scare off grazing animals. Although this plant may seem tough and robust, its num-bers are in decline and it has vanished from a number of growth sites.
In the embankment, you will find spiders with names that will spark imagination - the "beach wolf spider", the "distinguished jumper spider".
