Svartetorp, Naturreservat

  • Nature reserve
of 5 stars

Actions

Description

Svartetorp is located on the northern tip of Vångaberget, with natural forest and a genuine wilderness feel due to the large number of boulders and steep slopes. In the forest, red-listed species such as beech lichen, giant sponge moth and powder puff have been found.

Natural forest with red-listed species

The steep slopes and boulder-rich terrain have made effective forestry in the area difficult. This has meant that both old and dead trees have been left standing in some parts of the forest. In the natural forest-like parts of the reserve, red-listed species such as beech lichen, giant sponge moth and powder puff have been found.

Cavity-nesting birds

In the part of the forest with the highest biological values, beech dominates with an age range of between 80 and 140 years. The oldest and coarsest trees create conditions for cavity-nesting bird species such as the skylark and wood pigeon.

Accessibility

Svartetorp is mainly visited by people who live nearby. There is a simple unmarked path in the reserve.

In English

Welcome to Svartetorp Nature Reserve

Here on the northern edge of the hill Vångaberget, dead old trees still stand to attention among large erratic boulders. The steep slopes and block-rich terrain have made it difficult for people to use the forest. The area has a wild character with rare fungi and lichens thriving here.

It is mainly the nutrient-poor beech forest on the slopes that is becoming virgin-like with plenty of dead wood. In addition to beech, you find occasional specimens of oak and hornbeam.

Although not particularly large, many of the trees are old. Fenugreek stalkball is a rare jelly fungus growing on the bark of deciduous trees. The fruit body gives off a scent of fenugreek or lovage. The old, coarse trees provide homes for bird species that nest in hollows, such as black woodpecker and stock dove.
