Sjunnerup, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Skåne län
Actions
Description
In the 19th century, Sjunnerup was part of the large field landscape that used to spread out north of Höör. The old beech trees in the area have grown up in these sunlit pastures. For the past 100 years, broadleaf forests have dominated the area. Sjunnerup also contains the remains of a brickworks from the 19th century. An easily accessible path runs through the reserve.
Biological values
The forest consists largely of an older mixed deciduous forest, with beech, oak, birch, aspen, bird berry, pine and hazel. The element of beech is high and sometimes dominant. The area was classified as forest land as early as 1910 and has been forest ever since. The area has not been affected by forestry for the last 50 years. There is a lot of dead wood. There are also some particularly old broad-leaved beech trees. There is a suitable hay meadow in the area with, among other things, field bindweed, St. John's wort and yellow poppy. This area is of great importance for nectar-dependent beetles and butterflies and as a hunting ground for bats.
Cultural history
In 1873-88, a brickworks operated in the northern part of the nature reserve. Here you can see the remains of buildings and quarrying areas. The area also contains large areas of prehistoric barrows and a hollow way.
Outdoor life
At present, there are occasional visits to the old brickworks. The nature reserve is easily accessible and a path runs through the nature reserve. Remember to take your rubbish home.
