Description

The "Prästeskogen", which gave the reserve its name, is located in the eastern part of the reserve and has long continuity as woodland. Documents from the end of the 18th century describe it as "high ground with beautiful oak and beech forests with elements of hazel and willow". Today there are both large beech trees and younger plantations.

From hayfield to forest

During the 18th century, the western parts of the reserve were hayfields rich in trees and bushes. When haymaking ceased, parts of them grew back into forest. The areas that are now open were grazed or cultivated in small parts as fields. Grazing ceased in the 1970s and the former meadows remained ungrazed for a long time. In the pastures there is a fine flora, mainly in the wetter parts, with elements such as mayweed, mayweed and meadow lilies.

Wildlife

Because the broadleaf forest in the reserve has a long continuity as tree-bearing land, there are good conditions for a rich flora and fauna. There are plenty of wild boar and deer in the area, which often stay in the reserve. Red deer are sometimes seen wandering through the area. Stone crows nest in the area and buzzards are often seen in the deciduous forest. The edible frog has been observed in the reserve and in the area just outside there is still a small population of tree frogs.

Outdoor life

The reserve has no marked trails, but there are small paths that can be combined with smaller roads that take you around the area. There is also a mountain bike trail that is about 4 km long. There is a parking lot adjacent to the southern part of the reserve. Tables and benches are available at the parking lot, but also at the road's turning point next to the pasture. Remember to take your rubbish home.
