Actions
Description
Lya ljunghed with Älemossen and Korups fäladsmark is located 180 meters up on the high plateau of Hallandsåsen. Here you will encounter the remains of the ancient natural and cultural landscape that once covered most of the ridge. A hike through the reserve offers open spaces, juniper fields, flower-rich pastures, heather moors and one of Skåne's few raised bogs - Älemossen. Skåneleden passes through the reserve.
Planned nature conservation burning in March-April
Sometimes the meadow must burn, so that species do not disappear! Therefore, the County Administrative Board carries out planned conservation burning in several protected areas during March-April, including here.
Korup field meadow
Around Korup, memories of small-scale agriculture remain. Small field plots are mixed with fields. Here you'll find stone fences, cairns and top-hewn beech trees that remind us of the toil of the past.
The flowers in the field margins vary depending on the humidity. In the dry parts, you can see hayloft, sedge and meadowsweet. In the damp parts, you can instead see spruce shoot and marsh lily. Trees and shrubs that are important for insects and birds grow along field hedges and stone fences.
Lying heath
The treeless moorland that the villages used as outlying land was created in the 16th and 17th centuries by cutting down the trees and intensive grazing. At that time, the heather moors were burned at regular intervals to improve grazing. Today, conservation burning is carried out on these lands to benefit the plants and insects that thrive on the open heather.
Lya heathland is home to an unusually large number of shrikes and you can see the beautiful male sitting at the top of a juniper bush guarding his territory. Sometimes you can also see macabre traces of the shrikes as they often impale their prey (insects, small rodents, baby birds and so on) on thorns and thorns. In this way, they build up a food supply for a rainy day.
Älemossen
Älemossen is a raised bog consisting of an edge forest with pine and birch and a large, open bog area. Tufts of crowberry, cranberry and cloudberry are mixed with wet depressions. The entire bog is made up of white mosses, and in shallow depressions you can find the insectivorous plant round-leaved sundew. The brilliant yellow marsh lily blooms in early summer. Later in the summer, you can find the bellflower with its pinkish-purple bells.
Outdoor life
The Skåneleden trail passes through the nature reserve and goes over the open expanses of Älemossen in the southern half of the area. The trail then continues past Korup's field fields and ends at Lyas open heath with the hill Flackebjär in the far north. There is a viewing platform on the bog that you can reach via Skåneleden. Parking is available at Lya ljunghed. Remember to take your rubbish home.
In English
Welcome to Lya ljunghed and surroundings (including Korup, Älemossen) Nature Reserve
Narrow roads wind through a hilly, ancient farming landscape. Älemossen wetland extends out in the center, and to the north a stony heathland rises up. The land around Korup bears the scars from hard work from times gone by, with clearance cairns, stone walls and beech trees that have been topped. The Skåneleden Trail crosses right through the reserve which makes the voyage of discovery through the rich and varied countryside easier.
On the drier parts of the heathland, plants such as leopard's bane and bird's foot trefoil shine out amongst the heather plants and in the damp hollows you can find beauties such as lousewort and bog asphodel. Red-backed shrikes search for insects from the top of the juniper bushes and yellow hammers sing their verse "a-little-bit-of-bread-with-no-cheeeeeese".
There is something peaceful with the vast expanses of the wetland and there are lots of exciting things to discover here along the boardwalks and footpaths of the Skåneleden Trail. Some of the flora that grows here is usually found in Norrland, such as cloudberry, cranberry and cross-leaved heath. Bog asphodel shines with the golden yellow flower spikes and the carnivorous small plant round-leaved sundew grows close to the ground. Here you can listen for the black woodpecker's drum roll and the monotonous "churring" call of the nightjar.
