Horna sjömark, Naturreservat

Welcome to dragonfly country. In Horna sjömark you will find more species than anywhere else in Kristianstads Vattenrike. Inventories have found 13 different species here, including the green mosaic dragonfly, the T-square dragonfly and the sedge mosaic dragonfly. The vegetation in the south-eastern corner of Hammarsjön is also very rich in species and is home to at least 45 species, including water aloe, large leech bud, horsetail and water scorpion.

Old lake bottom

The entire land area consists of former lake bed. The water level was lowered throughout the area when Helgeån broke a new outlet into the sea in the spring of 1775. Hammarsjön was then lowered just over half a meter. In the 1940s, the lake was lowered by a further 3 decimeters. For a long time, the area closest to the shore was kept open by grazing, but today large parts have grown back with dense thickets of bushes and reeds.

Excellent dragonfly habitat

Lilla Sund, at the western border of the reserve, is the most species-rich dragonfly site in Kristianstad's water kingdom. Inventories have found 13 different species here, including the green mosaic dragonfly, the T-square dragonfly and the sedge mosaic dragonfly.

The species-rich flora of Hammarsjön

The vegetation in Lake Hammar is very rich in species and is home to at least 45 species. Among the rarities is styvnate, which was classified as having disappeared from Skåne from 1940 until it was found in Hammarsjön in 1991. Hammarsjön is probably also the only lake in Skåne where the rare aquatic plant seagrass occurs. In addition to these unusual species, there are, among others, water aloe, large hedgehog bud, horsetail, water scraper, watermark and yellow and white water lily.
