Description

Hörby fälad is located within walking distance of Hörby. It is a remnant of the agricultural landscape that was once typical of Skåne. Old stone walls and cairns are visible in the grazed fields. And between stones, junipers and rose bushes grow sheep's fescue, sedge and sweet pea. There is a rich bird life in and around Lågedammen. The Skåneleden trail passes through the reserve and there are plenty of small paths that take you around the fields.

Typical Scanian juniper field

Fields of juniper are typical of Skåne, but nowadays there are only small remnants of these vast pastures from the past. The word 'fälad' is the Scanian word for common, which was a commonly used field and pasture. Countless clearing cairns scattered throughout the reserve area testify that the field was also used as arable land. There are also a number of stone circles and two Iron Age cathedral rings.

The flora of the pasture

Plants favored by grazing, such as sheep's fescue, sedge, heather, stonewort and pea-pod, grow between the junipers and rose bushes. On the dry slopes west of the pond, large quantities of wood anemone bloom in April-May. In wetter areas, there are sedges, hop flowers and manna grass. The orchid St. Peter's keys stands southeast of the pond. Both wood anemone and St. John's wort are protected and forbidden to pick.

The inhabitants of the pond

There is also a pond in the reserve, Lågedammen. There is a rich bird life in and around the pond. A vigilant colony of laughing gulls nests on the tufts of sedge. The pond's inhabitants also include coots, mute swans and grebes.

Outdoor life

This urban nature reserve is within walking distance, just northwest of Hörby. Skåneleden (SL2 north to south, stage 9) passes through the reserve and there are also other small paths that take you around the field. Remember to take your rubbish home. Parking is available at Hörby sports center, right next to the reserve. The nearest bus stop, Magistergatan, is in Hörby about 1 km from the reserve.

On the other side of the highway is the large hiking area Fulltofta Link to another website.. If you follow Skåneleden about five km north, you will reach the hub of the hiking area - Fulltofta nature center.
