Hålebäckseröd, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Skåne län
Actions
Description
Hålebäckseröd is located on a slope down to Kägleån on Hallandsåsen. The reserve consists mainly of beech forest with an abundance of dead wood which, together with the river, forms valuable habitats for red-listed insect species. The reserve has no facilities for outdoor recreation.
Young beech forest with high values
The beech forest in Hålebäckseröd is relatively young but has nevertheless developed structures with high natural values. There is plenty of dead wood in the reserve and several of the beech trees have a coarse bark structure that has the potential to harbor mosses and lichens worthy of protection. In some places in the reserve there are wetter areas where swamp forest with alder and birch breaks off from the beech forest.
Steep cliffs along Kägleån
A short stretch of the Kägleån river flows through Hålebäckseröd and forms a deciduous forest-clad ravine. Among the steep cliffs and boulders is forest that has been so inaccessible that it has long been left untouched. The river still contains a very weak population of the rare river pearl mussel. In southern Sweden, the river pearl mussel can be up to 100 years old and can therefore remain in areas for a long time even if regeneration has ceased.
Hunting grounds of the common starling
In the river, you can also find the common tern - a lively little bird with a white breast that hunts insects in the water. The sturgeon is a very skilled diver and swimmer and can often be seen standing on a rock in the watercourse. The curlew can also run along the bottom in search of, among other things, caddisfly larvae.
Outdoor life
There is a parking space along the road between Margretetorp and Östra Karup. Otherwise, there are no facilities for outdoor life. Remember to take your trash home.
In English
Welcome to Hålebäckseröd Nature Reserve
The beech forest on the slope down towards the Kägleån river ravine is inaccessible and undisturbed, which means lots of dead wood and plenty of variation down among the steep rocks and boulders.
The white-throated dipper thrives near the cascading waters of the Kägleån river. Keep an eye out for this dark bird with its white breast. The white-throated dipper dives under the surface of the water from a rock in the gushing waters, hunting for caddisfly larvae and other insects. The Kägleån river is home to rich benthic fauna, and you will find species such as the rare freshwater pearl mussel here.
There are no marked trails in the nature reserve at present.
