Fulltofta gård, Naturreservat

The Fulltofta Farm and Fulltofta-Häggenäs reserves are located by Lake Ringsjön and are part of the Fulltofta hiking area, with several hiking trails, picnic areas, fireplaces and overnight accommodation. Many visitors start from Fulltofta nature center nearby. Others take the road down to Ringsjön at Fulltofta Castle. The road passes Fulltofta stork enclosure and the old oaks Gäddeeken and Treklöften. The road ends at Gäddängen and Fiskarehus. There are bathing facilities, toilets, a picnic area with barbecue and an accessible trail and bird platform.

Rice country with natural values

Fulltofta is located in the so-called rice country and is characterized today by grazed pastures, moist alder forests and deciduous forest groves. Typical of the area are the oak groves. In and around Kohagen, east of Fiskarehus, there are several old and hollow giant oaks. The pike oak on the right side of the road before Fiskarehus and Treklöften inside Kohagen are two of these 500-year-old giants that are some of Skåne's oldest trees. The oaks are home to a variety of rare lichens and insects, including the large and spectacular leatherback beetle.

Large mammals

The diverse habitats and varied vegetation in the reserve create conditions for a rich and varied wildlife. Elk, roe deer, red deer, fallow deer, fox and wild boar all occur within the reserve.

Östra Ringsjön's bird life

The reserve also includes a significant part of Östra Ringsjön. There are shallow sandy beaches with a sandy bottom and the lake is an important resting place for waterfowl such as whooper swan, mallard, brown duck, goldeneye and great crested cormorant. There is also a stork enclosure near Fulltofta church and manor house that is accessible to visitors.

Lands rich in ancient monuments

There are a large number of ancient remains in the area. The shores of Lake Ringsjön have been inhabited since the Stone Age and there are traces from several different historical eras. Stone fences, cultivation cairns, croft ruins, remains of mills and Fulltofta manor and church from the 12th century together form an interesting cultural environment.

The two reserves Fulltofta farm and Fulltofta-Häggenäs as well as Östra Fulltofta Link to another website. are part of or border on the foundation Skånska landskaps strövområde Fulltofta. The area has several hiking trails, rest areas, fireplaces and overnight accommodation. Many visitors start from the Fulltofta nature center, which is located a short distance outside the nature reserves.

Another option is to take the road down to Ringsjön at Fulltofta Castle. The road goes through the Fulltofta Gård reserve, past the stork enclosure and ends at Gäddängen and Fiskarehus. There are bathing facilities, toilets, a picnic area with barbecue and an accessible trail and bird platform. Nearby are fine oak environments. Two of Skåne's oldest oaks - Gäddeken and Treklöften - stand on either side of the road just before it turns off to the reserve parking lot. There is another barbecue area at Prästmöllan in the northern part of the reserve. The blue-marked Magnhilds runda trail (15 km in total) passes both the stork enclosure and Nunnäs fells and Prästmöllan in the north. In the reserve, the blue trail can be used for shorter tours of about 2-5 km. If you walk the entire 15 km round, you will also get to know the hiking area, as well as Fulltofta nature center and the source that gave the round its name, Sankta Magnhild.

Remember to bring charcoal if you are going to grill and a bag so that you can take the garbage home.

There is a lot to discover in the Fulltofta Gård and Fulltofta-Häggenäs Nature Reserves. The old cultural landscape is rich in ancient remains. Here you will also find one of Skåne's oldest oaks, lush broadleaf forest, flower meadows and a rich bird life.

Oak trees and their inhabitants

The Fulltofta district has one of Skåne's most valuable oak landscapes. At Kohagen, east of the Fiskarehuset pond, are several old, hollow giant oaks. One of these is the hefty 500-year-old Gäddeeken, one of the oldest trees in the county. The oaks are home to a great number of rare lichens and insects, including the large spectacular hermit beetle.

Flowering grassland

The long tradition of hay making and grazing has resulted in a rich flora. The pasture at Djupadal has a diversity of species such as dropwort, sticky catchfly, peach-leaved bellflower and globeflower. The rare pasqueflower, covered in fine downy fur, grows on the common in the northern part of the reserve, where a walking trail passes.

Rich birdlife

You can see many different birds in the deciduous forest and the man-made ponds in the reserve. In spring, groves and pastures are teeming with birdsong, from the melodic ripples of the willow warbler to the loud calls of the nutcracker. During autumn and spring migration, large numbers of geese and ducks rest at Lake Ringsjön and the Gäddängen pond, creating huge dramas when white-tailed eagles or peregrine falcons appear.

Rich in ancient remains

A number of ancient remains testify that settlers came to the Ringsjö district in pre-historic times. You can visit the prominent Iron Age grave-field at Nunnäs, just outside the reserve. Within the reserve, there are Stone Age settlements, prehistoric fields and a stone circle.

Within Fulltofta gård Nature Reserve it is forbidden to:

• destroy or damage fixed natural objects or surfaces,
• put up tents or park caravans other than in designated areas,
• cross cultivated land,
• put up boards, placards, posters or similar, or make inscriptions.

Within Fulltofta-Häggenäs Nature Reserve it is forbidden to:

• dig or in any other way damage fixed natural objects or surfaces,
• drive motor vehicles,
• put up tents or park caravans,
• bring unleashed dogs,
• light fires,
• put up boards, placards, posters, signs or similar, or make inscriptions.
