Description

The Bjärreds saltsjöbad nature reserve is a leafy oasis at the popular swimming area Långa bryggan in Bjärred. And something as unusual as a forest area in Lomma municipality. Paths take you around the over one hundred year old beech forest. The forest has developed from the park trees around the old Saltsjöbaden bathing facility that existed here in the first half of the 20th century. In the wide-crowned old beech trees, the small bat trollpipistrell thrives. Bjärreds Saltsjöbad is a municipal nature reserve.

Forest

Bjärreds Saltsjöbad's nature reserve has a 120-year-old beech forest with a dozen giant trees. The largest beech has a circumference of over 6 meters. On the ground you can see flowers such as swallowwort and hop flowers. The forest is said to be part of the park environment that surrounded Saltsjöbadet, which was located here in the early 1900s.

Wildlife

The area is rich in birds and bats. There is a large robin colony in the southeast. Other birds that are easy to see and hear are blackbird, blackcap, blue tit and chaffinch. The nuthatch also thrives here, a bird that is otherwise rare in the municipality. Bats that can be glimpsed in the forest include the northern bat, brown long-eared bat, little pipistrelle and common pipistrelle. The hollows of the old beech trees offer both shelter and nesting sites.

The rare fritillary butterfly has been found in the area. In addition to the broadleaf forest, it needs shrubs such as wild honeysuckle, woodruff and blackberry to find food and breeding habitat for the butterfly larvae.

Outdoor life

The Saltsjöbad area consists partly of the Långa bryggan bathing area and partly of the nature reserve surrounding the bathing parking lot. Together, the area is of great importance for swimming and outdoor life. Remember to take your rubbish home.

In Lomma municipality's brochure "Guide to nature in Lomma" Pdf, 6.3 MB, opens in new window there is more information about accessibility and facilities for outdoor life in all reserves and nature areas.
