Description

Beddinge Strandhed is located right next to the dense housing in Beddinge. The area, which until the 1990s was part of a golf course, is now home to protected flowers, unusual butterfly species and birds.

Planned nature conservation burning in March-April

Sometimes the meadow must burn, so that species do not disappear! That's why the County Administrative Board is carrying out planned conservation burning in several protected areas during March-April, including here.

The old beach heath

The area was set aside in 1996 as a nature conservation area with the aim of recreating and preserving a remnant of the old beach heath with vegetation that is as natural as possible, while at the same time allowing the area to be used as a hiking area and for swimming and outdoor activities.

The most common type of vegetation is sandy grassland of the brushwood type. Parts of the area are interspersed with open scrub of the herb-rich heather type. Yellow moon, little bluebell, pimpernel and the protected species heath flower and field bindweed grow here. Parts of the area were previously a golf course, and it is between these areas that the original flora can be found.

Parts of the reserve consist of pine forest. The pine forest is important for many migratory small birds, and the skylark also lives here. Meadow pipit and skylark nest in the open heathland, as does the demanding yellow eagle.

The insect life is also interesting and the reserve is home to a number of unusual butterfly species, such as the bell-bag spider. The wormwood capuchin butterfly, which is classified as nationally extinct, had one of its last outposts on Beddinge strandhed.

Outdoor life

The area is a popular bathing spot during the summer, but also an important area for outdoor recreation all year round. In addition to the bathing-friendly beach, there are good hiking opportunities on unmarked trails. It is of course also possible to roam freely, both through pine forest and beach heath. If you follow the beach to the northeast, you will reach the nearby nature reserve Fårabackarna Link to another website after a few kilometers. It is also possible to cycle along the coast on the Sydkustleden trail that runs between Simrishamn and Helsingborg. Parking facilities are available in the neighboring community. There is also the nearest bus stop, Beddingestrand Blåvingevägen. Remember to take your rubbish home.
