4 days easy pilgrimage hike in historic environment
Pilgrimage hike on St Olav Rombo Way for 4 days in historic mill environments and rural surroundings. The daily stages are approximately one kilometer long and mostly on easy gravel and forest roads. Here you will have several opportunities for coffee and overnight stays along the way.
Day 1 Hed-Uttersberg
You start at Hed's church and follow the easy-to-walk embankment of the old KUJ railway. You walk past farmland and countryside, forests and lakes. Along the entire length of the old KUJ railway you can see traces of the heyday of iron handling. In Karmansbo there is a preserved mill environment and a working life museum open in the summer.
The hike is categorized as "green", the easiest form of hiking. You continue past farmland and through forest areas. At Tomasbosjön there is the opportunity to rest at the beautifully and peacefully located old railway guard's cottage in Oxbron. Here you can rest with a nice view of Tomasbosjön.
Today's tour ends in Uttersberg, another old ironworks. With a grand mansion, sculpture park, Astely Gallery and café.
For those who want to stay overnight, there is a bus to Skinnskatteberg with the option of staying at a mill hotel.
Day 2 Uttersberg-Skinnskatteberg
After Uttersberg, you follow a gravel road along the beautiful environment along Hedströmmen and pass over the bridge at Grisnäs. Shortly after, you arrive at Brahegård where the trail enters the forest. Today's hike has a difficulty level of "blue", slightly more difficult than green but still easy to navigate.
After winding forest roads, you approach Skinnskatteberg from the west side of Nedre Vättern. Just before the finish line at Skinnskatteberg Church, you pass the Skinnskatteberg manor area, where SLU now has its Forestry School. The hike ends at Skinnskatteberg Church and you can spend the night at a hotel in the manor environment.
Day 3 Skinnskatteberg- Baggå
On this stage, you hike on small roads and forest paths with a difficulty level of "green". The nature around you changes and you walk in deep forests, through open agricultural landscapes and next to the winding waters of Hedströmmen.
In Baggå there is a preserved farm and manor environment and you can stay overnight at the hostel where there is also a café.
Day 4 Baggå-Malingsbo
You continue the hike along lakes and rivers towards Malingsbo and hike between the mill mansions. In Baggådalen and at the pebble ridges in Malingsbo, completely different tracks are visible. Those that show how the ice sheet shaped the landscape. The hike is considered "blue" difficulty.
In Nedre Borgfors, traces of the ironworks remain - once an important part of iron production in the area. Here you can also rest at the wind shelters next to the river.
The hike ends at Malingsbo church and you can spend the night at Malingsbo manor in the middle of the former mill environment.
