Description

This is an easy-to-walk scenic loop around Stora Älgsjön that runs in the beautiful dramatic Kolmårds landscape. The place is usually called "Kolmården's roof" because of its high location in Kolmårdsskogen. The loop is about 12 km long. At the northwest end of Stora and Lilla Älgsjön was the old feldspar mine Drömgruvan. Today, the mine consists of excavated piles of mine stone and a water-filled mine pond. Along the shore of Lilla Älgsjön there are picnic areas and a bathing area to the east. During the bathing season, there are toilets set up at the bathing area parking lot.

There are two starting points to choose from for the loop, Hjälmarsösjö and Lilla Älgsjön. At both locations there is parking for about ten cars.

Activities And Facilities

Rundslingan has two starting points. Starting point 1 from Åby: Go old Stockholmsvägen north, after Svarta Grind turn left at the sign and follow the road 3.5 km to the parking lot at Hjälmarsösjö. Starting point 2: Turn off at the Strömsfors exit on the E4. Then follow the old Stockholm road up a long hill. At the top of the hill you come to a crossroads, turn right.
