Actions
Description
In the Lobergshöjden nature reserve, the forest has developed freely without human intervention for a long time. The oldest trees were already here in the 17th century. Make your way through the forest up to the crest of the mountain ridge and enjoy the miles of views!
Snowy
The reserve consists of old forest located on the western slope and on top of a mountain ridge. It has high natural values associated with northern forests, the abundance of dead wood and high humidity. Most of the old conifers are between 110 and 200 years old, but there are also a few giant pines that are up to 300-350 years old. Many of the spruces have broken tops, which is due to the heavy snowfall in winter.
Lichen & mosses
The forest is home to a large number of unusual and demanding species. These are mainly lichens that depend on clean, moist air and long tree continuity. Among other things, Norwegian lichen occurs as an epiphyte, i.e. it grows on trees and not on stones. The fact that it lives on wood is unusual in Örebro County. Another rare species is the forest stair moss, which thrives on decaying spruce logs.
Wet soils
The damp climate is due, among other things, to the topography, the abundance of large boulders and all the water in the forest. In a small valley you will find the small bog Harflyet, and in a pronounced valley below the slope is a bog trough, Märrsprängardråget. The stream that runs through the valley drains the Märrsprängaren tarn.
Older times
It is a long time since people came here to cut wood for charcoal, but there is still a well-preserved old horse trail that runs parallel to Märrsprängardråget. Charred pine stumps and charcoal in rootwads can be seen here and there, showing that the forest on Lobergshöjden has burned repeatedly.
Accessibility
Lobergshöjden belongs to level 1 in the county administrative board's leveling of the county's nature reserves, which means that the reserve has a wilderness character and lacks outdoor recreation facilities.
